Creation of a ‘state-of-the-art retail, leisure and restaurant destination’ with hundreds of new homes in the heart of Croydon, came a major step closer in September, when the Government gave the green light for the compulsory purchase of the land required for Westfield and Hammerson’s £1 billion-plus proposals to re-develop the Whitgift Shopping Centre.
Now, Croydon BID has lined up a panel of keynote speakers from both Croydon Council and Westfield and Hammerson to provide businesses with an update on what has been described as ‘a vitally important stage in our town’s transformation into a modern European city”.
Speakers at the event will include Steve Yewman, Westfield Development Director and Carolyn Kenney, Director of Development at Hammerson who will provide an update on the Croydon Partnership’s exciting plans to re-establish Croydon as South London’s premier shopping district. They will be joined on stage by Croydon Council Leader, Tony Newman and Executive Director of Place, Jo Negrini who together will provide an insight into Croydon’s remarkable journey towards regeneration.
“We’re delighted to have brought together such a prestigious panel of speakers so quickly after the project reached this latest major milestone in its progress, with the granting of the compulsory purchase order,” said Croydon BID chief executive, Matthew Sims.
“We’re fully expecting demand for places at the event to be extremely high so I would urge all town centre businesses to get in touch to be sure of securing their place early on,” he added.
The event will take place between 6pm and 8pm on Tuesday, November 10th at Croydon College Conference Centre, College Road, Croydon. Attendance is free and precedence will be given in the first instance to BID levy-paying companies on a first come, first served basis. Refreshments, including a finger buffet will be served.
