The event aims to reach out to the local community and make people aware of the services, information and advice that is freely available to help them protect themselves and their property, as well as showcasing the support that is available to those in need of professional help or advice after being affected by crime.
Staged within the main square of Croydon’s Whitgift Shopping Centre from 11.00 – 14.30, the event will specifically include advice on how to avoid falling victim to doorstep criminals and rogue traders; securing your personal possessions; deterring burglars and car thieves and travelling safely on public transport. Small security items such as purse bells (anti bag-theft devices) will be given away free, along with personal safety alarms and property marking pens.
The event is being delivered with support from Croydon Business Improvement District (BID), the Metropolitan Police, Safer Croydon Partnership and Croydon Council.
Participating organisations include the Safer Neighbourhood Team and Counter Terrorism Team from the Metropolitan Police, the Safer Croydon Partnership, the Community Safety Team and Youth Outreach from Croydon Council and the Croydon Business Crime Reduction Partnership.
“We’re pleased to once again be bringing this event to Croydon town centre to provide a platform for Croydon residents to find out about the help and support that is available to them improve their own personal safety” said Shaun Webster, Business Crime Reduction Manager, Croydon BID. “We hope that as many people as possible will find time to come along.”
