Creating a vibrant and colourful vision for Croydon

Cleaner and Greener
Delivering brighter streets and improving the environment for all those who use the town centre continues to be at the heart of Croydon BID’s mission to ensure the town centre is regarded as one of the best places in south London in which to work, live, visit and do business.

To support that aim, we have recently appointed Windowflowers, one of the UK’s largest, independent suppliers of floral and horticultural services to the commercial sector, to help introduce extra vibrancy and colour across the heart of town.

The multi award-winning family-owned business grows over one million plants each year and currently works with such prestigious clients as  The Royal Horticultural Society, The Royal Mail, The Home Office, The Ritz, Citibank and The Houses of Parliament.

Commenting on the appointment, Miles Watson-Smyth, Director of Windowflowers said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be working with Croydon BID to brighten up the appearance of prominent, vacant and neglected spaces throughout Croydon town centre.

“We make a simple pledge to all of our clients which is to support the area by making it more inviting and welcoming, using a design-led approach supported by an intensive maintenance programme.”

Over the last ten years, the company has helped its clients to pick up over 100 awards from both the Royal Horticultural Society and Britain in Bloom.

Matthew Sims, Croydon BID chief executive said: “As a partnership, we have already begun making great strides to introduce much-needed colour and vibrancy across the town centre.

“As a team, we have identified a number of key locations that will soon be rejuvenated as a result of Windowflowers’ efforts.

“Work has already started on Reeves Corner with Dingwall Road, Wellesley Road, Thomas Turner Path and more to follow. Furthermore, we will be installing 220 hanging baskets along the main thoroughfares in the town centre, 70 more than in the previous year.”

Mr Sims added: “To underpin our work, we have appointed Arup to prepare a vision for innovative greening interventions across the town centre. The work, which is being funded by the Greater London Authority, will help to form the basis of our strategic direction over the next few years.”

Complementing its greening activities, Croydon BID is continuing in its determination to ensure the town centre’s streets are clean and fresh for people to use and , as a result, has re-appointed specialist cleaning contractors, Community Clean, to provide a two days per week deep-cleaning, wash-down, graffiti and gum removal service.

Since November 2012, Croydon BID has funded 21,000 extra hours of deep-cleaning and a responsive wash-down, gum and graffiti removal service covering 191,000 square metres of pavement.
