Get involved in Croydon's music city plans

Live music-lovers, musicians, and industry professionals are being called upon to get involved in plans to support the future of music in Croydon.

Earlier this year the council revealed its aim to develop the borough as a music city in the style of Nashville or Seattle – a where music-making and music production is at the heart of the local culture and economy.

Those with an interest in the future of Croydon’s music industry are now being urged to get involved and join the conversation by taking part in an online survey.

Led by global experts Sound Diplomacy on behalf of the council, this is part of a music audit to map the borough’s music scene, looking at what’s working, where gaps exist and where opportunities lie. Using an artificial intelligence tool they will also map the existing music assets of Croydon - venues, clubs, recording studios, rehearsal spaces and music education facilities. This audit will form the basis of Croydon’s music strategy and set out plans for it to evolve as a music city.

Cllr Oliver Lewis, cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport, said: “Croydon has produced some fantastic artists in recent years, including MOBO-award winners such as Nadia Rose, Krept and Konan and of course Stormzy. We want our borough to develop as a hub that nurtures new talent – a place that is known for breaking down barriers for aspiring artists and helping them access opportunities. If you care about the future of music in Croydon please join the conversation – we’d love to hear from you.”

If you are a live music lover, musician or a music industry professional willing to complete the survey or wishing to keep up to date with the project then please head to www.sounddiplomacy.com/croydon.
There will also be a series of roundtable sessions – for more information please email Paul Hudson at paul.hudson@croydon.gov.uk
