Local generosity shines through as 1,837 gifts are donated to Croydon’s Giving Tree Appeal

Croydon truly embraced the spirit of Christmas, with the 2025 Giving Tree Appeal delivering 1,837 gifts to children across the borough.

With an estimated value of £20,070, the appeal ensured hundreds of children woke up to a present on Christmas Day who may otherwise have gone without.

Led by Centrale & Whitgift in partnership with Croydon BID, Reedham Children’s Trust, and Croydon Voluntary Action (CVA), the Giving Tree Appeal brought together residents, shoppers, workers and businesses throughout December, all united by a shared goal: spreading joy to local children during the festive season.

With the support of Croydon BID, the Giving Tree initiative expanded beyond Centrale & Whitgift Shopping Centres and into the wider town centre for the first time, creating more opportunities than ever for people to get involved.

Twelve local businesses and organisations hosted their own Giving Trees, extending the reach of the appeal to town centre venues including Leonardo Hotel, The Green Dragon, The Ludoquist Café and Crown & Pepper.

Alongside them, local employers such as Superdrug Head Office, AMP House, Allianz, TBXH Sunley House, Interchange, 2 Ruskin Square and London South Bank University encouraged staff and visitors to donate.

Contributions from Croydon BID businesses accounted for over 70% of all donated gifts, highlighting the strong support of local companies during the festive period.

The impact of this generosity was felt far and wide. Gifts were distributed to children in care, those with additional needs, families facing poverty or bereavement, and children spending Christmas in hospitals or safe houses – ensuring every child received at least one gift to open on Christmas morning.

The Giving Tree Appeal shows Croydon at its very best. I’m incredibly proud of the way our business community, alongside residents and workers, has come together so generously to support local children and families this Christmas. I’d like to sincerely thank every business that hosted a Giving Tree and every individual who donated a gift – your kindness has helped bring real joy to children who might otherwise go without. This is a powerful reminder of the difference we can make when we work together as a community.
Matthew Sims, Chief Executive of Croydon BID
The Giving Tree Appeal has been part of Christmas at Centrale & Whitgift for over seven years, and this year we were keen to take it a step further by expanding the initiative beyond our centres and into the wider town centre. Working in partnership with Croydon BID allowed us to bring that idea to life, reaching more businesses, workers and residents than ever before. The response has been incredible, and collecting 1,837 gifts shows the strength of Croydon’s community when we create opportunities for people to give back together.
Dominique Stagg, Marketing and Events Manager for Centrale & Whitgift

All donated gifts were distributed by Reedham Children’s Trust and CVA, to schools, food banks and community support services across Croydon. Recipients included Legacy Youth Zone, Majestic Community Services, Torch Light Community, Reaching Higher, London Ambulance Service, Croydon Council, Floating Counselling, Bright Futures for All, Be Inspired Youth & Community CIC and Ascent Fostering Agency, alongside several primary, secondary and specialist schools.

The Giving Tree Appeal is about so much more than gifts, it’s about ensuring every child in Croydon feels remembered and cared for at Christmas. Thanks to the generosity of businesses, residents, and staff across the town, hundreds of children received presents that they might not have otherwise had. It’s a reminder of the impact we can have when the community works together.
Sarah Burns, CEO of Reedham Children’s Trust and Croydon Voluntary Action (CVA)

A heartfelt thank you goes to everyone who made the 2025 Giving Tree Appeal such a success – from the local businesses who hosted Giving Trees, to the charities and community organisations who supported distribution, and to every resident, visitor and employee who donated so generously.

Croydon BID, Centrale & Whitgift, Reedham Children’s Trust and CVA, look forward to building on this success and growing the Giving Tree Appeal even further in 2026.
