Unexpected Croydon

Remember when Croydon was taken over by giant inflatables?
Croydon BID and pioneering design company ‘Designs in Air’ launched Unexpected Croydon in 2022 – an inflatable 3D street art gallery, featuring a series of ‘unexpected’ sights on familiar buildings across Croydon.

A quick recap:

A neon lizard and a giant beanstalk were just some of the wacky installations that took over several landmarks around Croydon in 2022.

The giant installations were designed to attract people of all ages back into the town’s high street, for a week of entertainment, enjoyment and fun.

Unexpected Croydon had everyone talking, with positive coverage in major titles, including Time Out London and Evening Standard, as well as a feature on Good Morning Britain.

Luke Egan and Pete Hamilton Aka Filthy Luker and Pedro Estrellas are the inspirational artists behind Designs in Air. Their surreal sculptures have been impressing folks from around the world at major events and exhibitions such as the 2012 Olympics, The Eden Project and Cirque du Soleil.
