What is We Can Be Heroes?
Step into a band like no other. You’ll join up to 30 performers, lip-syncing to iconic tracks from artists like Eminem and Shirley Bassey. Together, you’ll dance and mime in unison, turning public space into a joyful stage. We Can Be Heroes is a playful celebration of community and music, bringing people together to perform songs we all know and love.
Meet the Artists:
- Arnaud Pirault- Director and choreographer, Arnaud has led Groupenfonction since 2003, directing over 20 shows. He has also taught at FAIAR in Marseille, shaping the next generation of public arts performers.
- Hyacinthe Hennae- A multidisciplinary artist trained in contemporary dance, acting, and singing, Hyacinthe has worked with Groupenfonction for 14 years, creating empowering performances and “heroes” since 2011.
No Experience Needed – Just Enthusiasm!
Anyone aged 12 and over is welcome to join. No need to sing or dance—just be ready to lip-sync and have fun with the group.
Rehearsals:
Sat 26th Oct: 10am – 5pm (Central Croydon, location TBC)
Sun 27th Oct: 10am – 5pm (Central Croydon, location TBC)
Weds 30th Oct: 5pm – 9pm (Central Croydon, location TBC)
Thurs 31st Oct: 5pm – 9pm (Central Croydon, location TBC)
Performances:
Sat 2nd Nov: 10am – 5pm at Whitgift Square, Croydon (two performances: 2pm & 4pm, each lasting approximately 30 minutes)
Compensation:
All participants will receive £150 to cover expenses at the end of the project. You’ll also have the unique experience of performing in a fun, collaborative environment.

About Croydonites Fringe Festival
The Croydonites Fringe Festival runs from Thu 31st Oct to Sun 3rd Nov 2024, showcasing performances at venues across central Croydon. It is proudly supported by Croydon Business Improvement District (BID), Croydon Council, and Arts Council England. The main Croydonites Festival follows from 6th to 24th November 2024.
