Croydon BID has created a comprehensive guide to help you and your business reopen from no earlier than 12th April 2021, as outlined by the Government’s roadmap. Our guide provides a host of information on reopening, practical tips alongside the operational needs of the town centre.

Croydon Council is opening up their Additional Restrictions Grant funding to further help our Croydon businesses hardest hit by ongoing Covid-19 restrictions. Evening and night-time venues with fixed premises costs that have had to close due to local and national restrictions could be eligible for a one-off £10,000 payment. Grants will be paid on a first-come, first-served basis and do not have to be paid back. These grants are for venues who bring our town and districts to life in the evenings. To be eligible, venues must demonstrate that evening and night-time trade usually plays a fundamental role in the day-to-day operation of the business. They must have physical premises from which they trade and pay a regular (monthly) business mortgage or rent. These grants do not cover the retail sector (whether essential or non-essential retail) or businesses who rent out venue space but do not themselves serve paying customers on site. The final report of the government’s fundamental review of business rates will now be published in the Autumn, it was announced today, 19th February 2021.

The furlough scheme has been extended until the end of April 2021 with the government continuing to contribute 80% towards wages – giving businesses and employees across the UK certainty into the New Year, the Chancellor announced today (17th December 2020)

The only advice currently available in regard to the local lockdown grants is directed at Local Authorities but it gives insights if you would like a little more information.

Applications for the COVID-19 Recovery Grants will reopen shortly. Please note that they will be accepting applications from businesses working in the Visitor Economy on the 10th November and for businesses working in all other sectors (Wider Economy) on the 17th November. London Business Hub has launched a series of free, dedicated webinars delivered by expert speakers that have been carefully designed to answer your questions and to help guide London’s small businesses through the many challenges presented by COVID-19. They have also brought together a range of resources and information to help you through these difficult times and to help you find the right support. This includes access to funding, including our own grant funds for businesses, as well as support to help you reopen your business safely.

This allows all UK employers with employees on PAYE to designate those employees as ‘furloughed workers’ as per Government guidance.

Businesses have been able to apply for government-guaranteed loans between £2,000 and £50,000 from the 4th May 2020. These don’t have any interest or fees for the first 12 months.
