Croydon artists wanted: Enter Creative Croydon 2025 and see your art across the town centre

Creative Croydon 2025 is calling on local creatives to submit three artworks for the chance to have them displayed on lamppost banners across Croydon town centre this autumn, with each selected artist receiving a £750 commission.

First launched in 2022 by Croydon BID in partnership with cultural blog the Croydonist and design studio 31% Wool, Creative Croydon offers local artists a platform to share their work with thousands of people in the heart of the town centre.

The first edition featured striking depictions of Croydon’s buildings and spaces by artists including Kate Marsden, Gavin Kinch, Tina Crawford, Lis Watkins, and Bev Jones. In 2023, as Croydon celebrated being London Borough of Culture, the project highlighted the borough’s diverse creative talent with works by Divya Sharma, Matt Bannister, Skye Baker, Miguel Sopena, and Melanie Russell.

Last year, Creative Croydon opened up to young budding creatives with a competition for artists aged 16–25 on the theme “Happiness is”. Five winners – Autumn Ng Fong Tiao, Iulia Taropa, Beatrix Finch, Erika Gomez, and Thomas Oldfield – were commissioned to bring colour and positivity to Croydon’s streets, their work seen by thousands of residents and visitors.

Now, in 2025, the project is back with its most open brief yet. Artists who live, work, or study in Croydon are invited to submit three pieces of artwork of their choice – whether existing pieces or newly created for the occasion. This year there is no theme, just the chance to let creativity shine and see your work displayed on banners throughout Croydon town centre.

A panel of judges, including former Creative Croydon artists, will select three winners. Each chosen artist will receive a £750 commission and see their artworks exhibited on lamppost banners across Croydon from October, making this a unique opportunity to display their creativity on a large and very public scale.

I’ve always been inspired by the depth of creative talent in Croydon. Through the Creative Croydon series, we’re proud to offer local artists a platform to share their work with the wider community, transforming our town centre into an open-air gallery using on-street lamppost banners. We are delighted to be partnering with 31% Wool, founders of the Croydonist, and our expert judging panel as we invite submissions from across the borough. This is a celebration of Croydon’s vibrant arts scene and the talented individuals who bring it to life. I look forward to seeing the entries and working with the selected artists, each of whom will receive a £750 commission to help brighten our streets with creativity and colour.

I’m delighted to be partnering with Croydon BID once again on this free public exhibition, now in its fourth year, showcasing the breadth of artistic talent across the borough. This year’s competition opens the door to artists of all ages, and I’m looking forward to seeing the winning works chosen by our new judging panel of previous Creative Croydon exhibitors.
