Our dedicated cleansing team, consisting of two professionals, visit the town centre twice a week, starting at 4:30am in the morning when the town centre is sleeping. This service supports over 1,800 additional hours of cleansing support annually.
Their efforts include regular deep-cleaning of hotspots and pavements, targeting the removal of chewing gum, and a tailored ‘Business Cleansing Service‘ designed to meet the specific needs of our members.
Whether it’s cleaning shop fronts, ensuring spotless windows, or removing unsightly graffiti, our team is committed to making Croydon a cleaner, more attractive place.
Q1 Activity Highlights
In the first quarter of 2024, the Croydon BID Cleansing Team achieved impressive results in enhancing the town centre’s cleanliness and appeal:
- Graffiti and Fly Poster Removal: The team successfully removed 445 pieces of graffiti and fly posters, focusing on challenging and hard-to-reach areas within the town centre.
- Pavement and Area Cleaning: Covering a total area of 15,000 square meters (3 football fields), the team meticulously cleaned key locations, including high-traffic areas around East and West Croydon train stations and the Whitgift underpass, ensuring a clean and welcoming environment for all visitors.
- Street Furniture Cleaning: Over 1,000 items of street furniture, including bins and benches, and signs, were thoroughly cleaned, addressing issues such as pigeon droppings and general grime.
- Support for Small Businesses: The team provided wash-down services to 71 small businesses, enhancing their external appearance and contributing to a positive business environment.
- Corporate Cleaning Services: The team undertook specialised commercial cleans for our larger levy payers, such as the Home Office at Lunar House and Apollo House, Croydon Magistrates Court, and Southern House, ensuring these premises remained pristine and presentable.
