Building on the success of Croydon BID’s previous Safer Business Action Week and Business Crime Reduction Partnership Awareness Week, this summer campaign aims to make a clear and proactive statement of intent ahead of the busy summer period.
With schools set to break up soon after the campaign ends, Safer Summer Fortnight has been strategically timed to prepare the town centre for the seasonal increase in footfall.
Throughout the fortnight, Croydon BID will deliver a diverse mix of activities including targeted police operations, free training for local businesses, a town centre safety briefing, and public awareness campaigns.
Highlights of the Safer Summer Fortnight will include:
- Croydon Town Centre Summer Safety Summit: An in-depth event at LSBU for local businesses, featuring updates from Croydon MPS, findings from the Croydon BID Business Crime Survey 2025, and updates from Croydon Council on local priorities including the town’s VAWG strategy.
- Retail Crime Day of Action: A high-impact partnership operation between police, local retailers, and the CBCP to address prolific retail crime and reassure businesses and the public.
- Training Opportunities: A programme of free sessions including Conflict Management workshops, Counter Terrorism ACT Awareness training led by MET Police advisors, and additional modules such as trauma response and “Stop the Bleed” training by JFJ Foundation – equipping staff with practical tools to improve their confidence and resilience.
- Public Safety Messaging: Campaigns targeting mobile phone theft, drink spiking, online crime reporting, scams, and fraud – all tailored to raise awareness and support residents and visitors in staying safe this summer.
- Engagement Patrols and Membership Drives: The Croydon BID Street Ranger will lead an effort to sign up new members to the Croydon Business Crime Reduction Partnership (CBCP), while funded police patrols under Operation Mooka will be out engaging directly with businesses on safety concerns.
Additional activities are currently being finalised in partnership with Croydon Council, MPS and outreach services. Further updates on the campaign schedule, confirmed partners, and how to get involved will be released in the coming weeks.
