Croydon BID marks 18 years of funding Croydon’s Christmas lights and installations

For almost two decades, Croydon Business Improvement District (BID) has been at the heart of the town centre’s Christmas celebrations, investing in lights and seasonal installations.

Returning with new features and decorations, the 2025 display aims to make Croydon town centre brighter and more vibrant throughout the holiday season.

Each year, Croydon BID aims to create a welcoming environment for residents, visitors, and shoppers – a key factor in supporting the town centre and local high streets during the busy Christmas period.

This year, that investment delivers 71 decorations and lighting motifs across the town centre, illuminating 10 streets including Surrey Street, High Street, North End, Katharine Street, Church Street, Lansdowne Road, and more. In total, the scheme features up to 110,000 LED lights, including approximately 1,500m of tree lights, bringing holiday cheer to all who live, work, and visit Croydon town centre.

In addition to the street lighting, North End features a range of festive installations, including:

  • The town centre Christmas tree
  • Two interactive “selfie installations” for capturing holiday memories
  • Christmas lighting gobos projecting seasonal motifs onto buildings and streets

To further enhance the town centre, new colourful and vibrant signage has been installed along the main shopping streets, spreading seasonal messages and highlighting Croydon BID’s role in delivering the lights. By representing the business community, Croydon BID hopes these displays encourage visitors to explore the town centre, enjoy the seasonal atmosphere, and support local businesses.

Christmas is the single most important period for all town centres and high streets. Together with our partners, Croydon BID is working hard to enhance attractions and welcome more people into the town centre. Our investment in the Christmas tree, walk-through Christmas Bauble, and Christmas Star provides interactive experiences and selfie opportunities for friends and families. I am proud of the town centre Christmas lights, which demonstrate our ongoing commitment to creating an inviting, positive space for everyone living, working, and visiting Croydon to enjoy their Christmas shopping.
Matthew Sims, Chief Executive, Croydon BID
