The incident unfolded when Centrale’s CCTV team spotted a suspect known to local businesses through intelligence gathered by the Croydon BID. The individual was suspected of being involved in drug-related activities and had been flagged after a previous encounter with a business.
Earlier in the day, the offender had drawn attention for suspicious behaviour, and upon returning to the town centre, security teams immediately recognised him and flagged his presence via the Croydon BID Radio Link. This radio system, used by local businesses and key sites like Centrale & Whitgift shopping centres, quickly mobilised the Metropolitan Police, BID Street Rangers, and security staff across various businesses, who provided continuous updates on the suspect’s movements.
As the suspect attempted to evade officers, real-time information was relayed across the Croydon BID Radio Link, allowing different security teams to track his direction of travel. This collaboration enabled police officers to close in as the suspect moved throughout the town. Eventually, the coordinated efforts led to a foot chase, and the offender was successfully detained by BID Street Rangers, resulting in a swift arrest by plain-clothed officers from the Town Centre Metropolitan Police team.
This incident is just one of several in the past week where the Croydon BID Radio Link scheme played a critical role in action and arrests. It serves as a testament to the importance of real-time communication between businesses, local security, and law enforcement in effectively tackling crime and maintaining safety in Croydon town centre.
As the Croydon BID Radio Link scheme continues to grow, so does its ability to foster collaboration and enhance security across Croydon’s business community. Businesses are reminded to stay vigilant and contact the police via 999 in case of emergencies, with the Radio Link serving as an additional layer of support to safeguard the local area.
