Croydon BID Street Rangers named finalists in national safety award

The Croydon BID Street Ranger Team has been shortlisted for the Best Safety, Security and Resilience Scheme by the Association of Town & City Management (ATCM).
The shortlisting recognises the team’s consistent work in helping to make Croydon town centre a safer and more welcoming place for businesses, staff, residents, and visitors. The team delivers more than 160 hours of additional uniformed patrols each week, providing visible reassurance and practical support on the ground.

Working in close partnership with the Metropolitan Police, Croydon Council and other local services, the team contributes directly to improving safety and tackling on-street issues.

In 2024–25, the Croydon BID Street Ranger team:

  • Completed 6,338 additional patrol hours
  • Carried out 13,964 business visits
  • Responded to 596 incidents, generating 234 pieces of intelligence
  • Recovered at least £25,000 in stolen stock
  • Undertook 388 welfare checks with vulnerable individuals

From supporting local businesses and recovering stolen goods to addressing anti-social behaviour and conducting welfare checks, the Street Rangers provide a valued service in the town centre. Their direct connection to businesses through the Croydon BID Radio Link also ensures quick response times when issues arise.

We are absolutely thrilled to see the Croydon BID Street Rangers recognised nationally as part of the Association of Town & City Management Awards. They are a reliable, visible presence on street, providing reassurance, support acting as the eyes and ears for our business community. They work tirelessly, often in difficult circumstances, to support our businesses, engage with the community, and help improve safety on our streets. Their dedication deserves recognition, and this shortlisting is a welcome acknowledgement of the difference they make.
