In the second quarter of 2024, the Croydon BID Street Ranger team have remained dedicated to ensuring a safer environment for businesses, residents, and visitors by engaging in welfare checks, crime prevention, and supporting local authorities.
Clocking in 1,459 hours of patrols during Q2, the Croydon BID Street Rangers covered 1,773 km—roughly the distance from London to Athens.

Their dedicated efforts provided consistent support to local businesses, resulting in 1,900 visits and check-ins, as well as recovering goods valued at £3,651. Additionally, they conducted 27 welfare checks for individuals who were homeless or at risk of homelessness, delivering support services information and reassurance.

The Street Rangers responded to 124 business incidents, with 55 requiring immediate intervention. This included assisting in stock recovery, escorting individuals from premises, and supporting security teams. Their ongoing efforts led to the recovery of goods and intelligence sharing that resulted in 6 police arrests, highlighting their role in maintaining safety and order.

Key Successes of Q2:

The Street Rangers’ work in Q2 has been marked by several notable successes:

  • Weapons Sweeps: The team worked alongside Croydon MPS on multiple weapons sweeps, leading to the seizure of knives and drugs, directly contributing to crime prevention efforts.
  • Civil Unrest Response: During the civil unrest over the summer, the Street Rangers played a critical role in providing reassurance and taking proactive measures to maintain calm and security in the town centre.
  • Team Expansion: Q2 also saw the team grow, with the addition of a fourth Street Ranger. This expansion returned the team to two units patrolling, significantly increasing their coverage and capability across Croydon.
  • Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Monitoring: The Street Rangers were instrumental in identifying offenders involved in anti-social behaviour (ASB) and breaches of the town’s Public Space Protection Order (PSPO). They provided valuable intelligence to authorities, supporting enforcement actions.
  • Medical Assistance: The team continued to offer medical assistance to members of the public, attending incidents and ensuring those in need received the appropriate care.

Local businesses have echoed their appreciation for the team’s work and dedication:

The Croydon BID Street Rangers have always been proactive in supporting our business in the Croydon market. They regularly visit to check in on any issues and offer help where needed. In the past, when we’ve had problems, we used the Croydon BID Radio Link, and they arrived quickly—even before the police. They managed to defuse the situation and reassure our staff. The Croydon BID Street Rangers are always professional and polite, and they are a real asset to the Croydon market, ensuring both our colleagues and customers feel safe. A big thank you for all you do to support us!
