In December, Croydon BID extended the Street Ranger service from five days a week to six, adding an extra day of patrols each week. This change contributed an additional 128 hours of support during one of the busiest months of the year, ensuring businesses and visitors benefited from increased coverage when they needed it most.
Throughout Q3, they’ve engaged with 3,800 businesses, offering support and reassurance, and conducted 146 welfare checks for rough sleepers and street-based individuals, ensuring vulnerable members of the community receive the help they need.
Key Contributions:
- The team responded to 168 incidents of business support, assisting with stock recovery, conflict resolution, and intelligence sharing with law enforcement.
- Their proactive efforts helped recover £10,800 worth of stock, ensuring businesses could bounce back from potential losses.
- Their vigilance and quick action contributed to 19 arrests, a testament to their ability to intervene in critical situations.
Other Highlights:
- Intelligence Gathering: The Rangers’ information on a known offender breaching their Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) led to their re-arrest.
- Weapons Sweeps: Targeted searches resulted in the recovery of weapons and drugs, helping to keep Croydon’s streets safer.
- Support for Retailers: Their swift intervention during a serious incident supported the recovery of £4,000 worth of stock and protected staff from harm.
- Witness Statements: Rangers provided vital statements to Croydon Metropolitan Police, aiding investigations into various breaches of behaviour.
- Public Safety: They de-escalated multiple breaches of the peace, ensuring the safety of businesses and visitors.
- Emergency Support: Rangers reunited missing children with their families and supported emergency services during suspected drug overdose incidents.
From recovering thousands of pounds in stolen goods to intervening in life-threatening emergencies, the Croydon BID Street Rangers have cemented themselves as an integral part of the town centre’s safety and support system.
As we move into Q4, the Croydon BID Street Rangers will continue to stand by Croydon’s businesses, residents, and visitors, ensuring the town centre remains a safe, welcoming, and thriving space for all.
