A judging panel made up of past Creative Croydon artists – Beatrix Finch, Thomas Oldfield, Melanie Russell, Divya Sharma, and Lis Watkins – had the challenging task of selecting just three winners from a wide range of submissions.
This year’s commissioned artists are:
- Alec Saunders – A local primary school art teacher and award-winning street artist, also known as ALECLDN. Alec’s banners feature portraits of Croydon residents framed by mid-century architecture, including the iconic Nestlé tower. One piece incorporates a vinyl record, nodding to the borough’s musical heritage.

- Shirley Shephard – A retired teacher and lifelong Croydon resident, Shirley creates watercolours inspired by the borough’s natural spaces. Her works for Creative Croydon depict Littleheath Woods in Selsdon and Coombe Wood Gardens, celebrating the green spaces that bring calm and colour to the community.

- Alex Mouette – A Digital Arts student at The BRIT School, Alex’s series, The Croydon Moquettes, reimagines the iconic London transport fabric pattern with a local twist, featuring landmarks like the Clocktower and Addington Palace. His work offers a playful, modern take on Croydon’s identity.

Together, these artists showcase the diversity and creativity of Croydon – from urban life and nature to music and digital design – bringing energy and colour to the town centre this season.
The Creative Croydon 2025 banners can now be seen around Croydon town centre.
