The track renewal is part of ongoing efforts to improve tram reliability and performance, reducing the risk of track defects and unplanned service disruptions. During the closure, teams will also carry out smaller scale track, power, and asset renewals at multiple locations across the affected area.
Service changes during the closure:
- No trams will run between East Croydon and Beckenham Junction, Elmers End, or New Addington.
- Replacement buses will operate between East Croydon and Beckenham Junction via Elmers End, and between East Croydon and New Addington, with services every 10–15 minutes.
- Replacement buses will stop at all tram stops except Lebanon Road, which is about a 450m walk from Sandilands.
- Trams will continue to operate normally between East Croydon and Wimbledon.
Passengers can use the Hopper fare, paying £1.75 for unlimited bus and tram journeys within one hour. Cycling or walking may also be an option for some journeys, as replacement bus services may be busy during the closure.
To keep passengers informed, TfL will display posters at affected tram stops, provide maps to replacement bus routes, email registered London Trams customers, and share details in the Metro newspaper travel page. Customers are encouraged to use journey planning tools or the TfL Go app, which will be updated ahead of the closure.
TfL apologises for any inconvenience and thanks passengers for their patience while essential maintenance is carried out.
