Extended licensing hours to support Croydon businesses on the 80th anniversary of VE Day

The Government has announced extended licensing hours for pubs and bars across England and Wales to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, offering Croydon businesses the opportunity to join in the national celebrations.
On Thursday 8th May 2025, venues with a usual closing time of 11pm will be allowed to stay open until 1am on 9th May, giving Croydon’s hospitality businesses the chance to join in the commemorations and festivities marking the end of the Second World War in Europe.

A letter from Justine Simons OBE, Deputy Mayor for Culture and the Creative Industries, and Howard Dawber, Deputy Mayor for Business, has been sent to BIDs across the UK, including Croydon BID, urging local businesses to make the most of these extended hours.

The letter encourages pubs, cafes, restaurants, and music venues to make the most of the extended hours to create a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere for the local community.

This extended licensing period provides business with an opportunity to reflect and celebrate VE Day, alongside the national events taking place across the capital, including a televised commemoration at Horse Guards Parade.

Croydon businesses are encouraged to embrace the extension and be part of this significant moment in history.
