Greening Croydon Town Centre: Q1 Impact Report

From vibrant hanging baskets to seasonal bedding plants, discover the latest updates from Croydon BID on greening projects which are transforming key areas of Croydon town centre.
Croydon BID, in collaboration with Window Flowers, has made remarkable progress in greening Croydon town centre in the first quarter of this year.

Launched on 1st May and set to conclude by mid-October, the initiative focuses on revitalising ten previously neglected sites across key locations such as Wellesley Road, Reeves Corner, and West Croydon Train Station.

Matthew Sims, Chief Executive of Croydon BID, emphasised the project’s broader impact:

Our goal is to transform these areas into vibrant, green spaces that significantly enhance Croydon’s appeal. These efforts not only beautify our town centre but also instil community pride and support environmental sustainability.

In Q1, notable achievements include the installation of 122 hanging baskets adorned with a total of 1,220 plants, strategically positioned to enhance five main areas throughout the town centre.  A tradition upheld by Croydon BID for the past 17 years.

Additionally, Window Flowers have planted approximately 3,000 seasonal bedding plants across various project sites, including Wellesley Road, High Street Concrete Planters, and West Croydon Station.

The maintenance efforts require an estimated 700 hours annually to ensure all the plants thrive and continue to create inviting, attractive spaces.
