New evening hours for Croydon BID Street Rangers to enhance town centre safety

Croydon Business Improvement District (BID) is updating the patrol hours for their Street Ranger team to provide essential support during key evening times when businesses and visitors need it most.
Responding to feedback received directly from the Croydon BID membership, these changes come into effect on 4th November 2024.

As the nights draw in and the holiday season approaches, the change in hours will support our retail, hospitality, and leisure business community, as well as those that use our town centre.

The Croydon BID Street Rangers currently provide over 160 hours of uniformed patrols each week, ensuring increased visibility and reassurance throughout the town centre. The new hours will further strengthen this commitment to safety and support.

New Croydon BID Street Ranger hours:

  • Tuesday: 10am – 6pm
  • Wednesday: 11am – 7pm
  • Thursday: 11am – 7pm
  • Friday: 12pm – 8pm
  • Saturday: 11am – 7pm & 12pm – 8pm (two pairs)

The shift in hours reflects a strategic focus on early evening support. With many retailers identifying the close of the business day as a vulnerable period, particularly around 6-7pm, the Croydon BID Street Rangers’ later hours provide a reassuring presence when it is most needed.

As our members highlighted the importance of safety in the early evening, we wanted to adapt our approach to best support them. By shifting our Street Rangers’ hours, we’re ensuring that their 160+ hours per week of patrolling are deployed where they’re most needed, enhancing visibility and providing reassurance at key times. Our team’s presence in the town centre is invaluable, and these new hours underscore our commitment to using every resource to its fullest advantage, showing just how indispensable the Croydon BID Street Rangers are to Croydon’s business community.
Shaun Webster, Director of Operations, Croydon BID

As the evenings grow darker, the Croydon BID Street Rangers will be positioned at key town centre locations to provide reassurance to employees and commuters.

For those in hospitality, the evening coverage aims to support their business activity, ensuring a visible presence that aligns with their needs.

Finally, as the festive season approaches, the new hours will help support increased footfall and provide a safer environment during holiday celebrations and gatherings.

The later Croydon BID Street Ranger operating hours are a welcome addition for our business, especially when it comes to staff safety during the darker evenings. Knowing there’s extra support on the ground really reassures our team, making them feel more comfortable and secure when leaving work. It’s a positive step that strengthens the whole town centre’s sense of safety.

The Croydon BID Street Rangers remain committed to creating a secure, welcoming town centre for everyone, and we appreciate the ongoing feedback from Croydon’s businesses as we adapt to meet their needs.
