There is no job too small for Augustine and Ilido, who have worked for the BID in the town for more than seven years. Always smiling, the pair are a popular and welcome sight to businesses as they go about their cleansing duties, bringing some much need shine to our streets.
Working from 4.30am two days a week, in addition to their cleansing and anti-graffiti role, they are often seen with a roller in their hands, providing a fresh lick of paint to areas of the town in need of some tlc.
As the town centre has reopened over the past few months, the BID’s Street Cleansing Team played a key role, providing a wash down service to businesses reopening, freshening up their frontages after a prolonged period of closure and have also been using anti-viral agents at key touch point locations to reduce the spread of coronavirus. More than 100 shop frontages along the High Street and North End were cleaned by the team, providing a pleasant, welcoming environment for those heading the shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants for the first time in 2021.
Since 1 April, 775 pieces of street furniture have been jet washed, 666 pieces of graffiti/fly posters have been removed – a focus for the team at the moment - and a whopping 18,000 sq m of town centre pavements have been jet washed, removing unwanted grime and chewing gum.
Shaun Webster, Head of Operations at Croydon BID, said: “Croydon is a big town and our team works really hard to stay on top of issues and help present the town the best it can.
“Even if our team worked five days a week, there would be more to do, so we work really hard to target the priority areas that need some love and keep them clean while also responding directly to the request from out levy payers, when they need our help.
If your business need assistance from the BID’s street cleaning team, please contact Shaun Webster, Head of Operations at Croydon BID on 020 8603 050 or email firstname.lastname@example.org, as the team are on hand to support and deal with any cleansing issues affecting your premises.
