Eight monsters across well-known rooftops created the most incredible stir far and wide – all thanks to Croydon BID.
Working alongside pioneering inflatable design company Design In Air, the eight inflatable monsters greeted those living in, working in and – once word got out (quickly) – visiting the town centre.
Making themselves at home across several landmarks including Fairfield Halls, Croydon Clocktower and Hewitt’s of Croydon, the monsters, which surprised many, brought a smile to peoples’ faces and were soon flooding social media, reaching millions.
The monsters caused quite a stir while they were in the town centre with people taking to social media channels reaching millions of people. One post alone by Transport for London promoted the event to their 2.3 million followers. Many enjoyed the caption competition, posting hilarious comments with your photos.
Matthew Sims, Chief Executive of Croydon BID said: “The monster invasion was incredible and surpassed all our hopes. We must do things differently, to innovate and at times take calculated risks to attract people back into our town centre. The monster invasion delivered against all those needs offering something different that grabbed people’s imagination. It was fantastic to see the response literally flooding through social media channels. It took people by surprise in such a positive way!
“The only wish might be that they weren’t up long enough! A huge thank you must be paid to the building owners and occupiers who allowed for the monsters to be installed and for our many partners who assisted with the event and in particular Trams for London.”
Croydon College was one such rooftop which gave a home to the twin monsters ‘The Goofs’, keeping a watchful eye on students, teachers and staff alike!
Caireen Mitchell, Chief Executive and Principal of Croydon College said: “We were delighted to support Croydon BID in delivering such a positive project for our town centre. It was full of fun, laughter and smiles and the monsters certainly bought the positive focus we all need. We very much hope that it will return in the not-too-distant future.”
To support the campaign, people were encouraged to take photos and post them across social media channels accompanied by a funny caption. The winner of the competition will receive a £50 voucher. The Croydon BID is now reviewing all captions and hopes to announce winner(s) shortly.
