Whether you’re looking to spend time with the family, hang out with friends, or you’re simply rolling solo, Street Live has your whole summer sorted with an extravaganza of entertainment.
Starting on Sunday 9th June 2019, Street Live will bring together an eclectic mix of live music, dance, theatre and entertainment showcasing talent from across Croydon and beyond. Not forgetting the return of Wimbledon Live – your chance to watch the tennis championships in total comfort in the centre of Croydon.
We invite you to feast your eyes and be entertained with a host of events located on the recently pedestrianised High Street. We’ve got something for everyone – the perfect spot to chill out and bask in the summer sun.
Matthew Sims, chief executive of Croydon BID, said: “Croydon’s summer programme is literally packed full of events and activities for everyone, whatever your age, to enjoy. Street Live brings together a host of talent across three months, attacking the senses, inspiring the mind and bringing people together. It’s time for a staycation - keep it Croydon.”
Why the excitement? What should I check out?
Right from the very start, join Aspara Arts and learn to become a dance like a true Bollywood star.
Not for you? Maybe our very own The BRIT School can convince you with ‘BRIT Presents’, a series of performances from their talented students with some unseen material. Join them on 8th and 15th June 2019 and see the future stars of tomorrow before they hit the big time.
Love to shake your booty to the funkiest of sounds? The Bridge+, by Scanner’s Inc, will be a non-stop family event that culminates in London’s friendliest social dance party. The Bridge+ will bring a Hip Hop jam to the High Street for everyone to enjoy.
It’s game, set, match as Wimbledon Live returns with the big screen for two weeks of uninterrupted tennis action from the world’s greatest players. Sit back in your deckchairs or beanbags, relax, drink and eat, without missing a point from 1st July 2019.
Did someone say beach? Yes, that’s right; the High Street will be transformed in to a beach with over 15 tonnes of sand. So, armed with buckets and spades aplenty plus other traditional beach treasures, bring the family into the town centre and start building the perfect sandcastle.
Inspired by the golfers in the British Open? Compete with friends and family with our nine hole pop-up crazy golf course. Don’t forget to watch the real action from the many venues in town.
Did someone say Shakespeare on the High Street? In one of the Bard’s most famous plays, two households, both alike in dignity battle it out on the streets of Verona, while young love develops in the most unlikely place. Will there be swords? Yes. Will there be laughs? Yes. Will Romeo and Juliet get their happy ending? We doubt it. Join the cast for an exceptional evening of theatre.
Just want to watch? There’ll be talented musicians busking on Friday evenings, from the 14th June, and renowned entertainers from Covent Garden Market, our BMX stunt masters and many more to wow the crowds.
Councillor Oliver Lewis, cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport, said: “Pedestrianising High Street has meant we’ve been able to turn a space for cars into a space for people, and Street Live really emphasises that point. This programme is looking really exciting and it will add to the number of activities we have going on across the borough all year round for those living, working and visiting Croydon.”
Croydon Business Improvement District (BID) and Croydon Council are working with a number of partners across the summer to bring together a host of showcase cultural events – all for you.
