Venue Review: Bad Axe Throwing on target

Looking for a new leisure activity in our home borough, Croydon BID headed to Boxpark on a Saturday evening to try out Bad Axe Throwing. While that name might refer to our skills, the venue certainly doesn’t lend that name to itself. Find out more of what we thought below.

Arriving at the venue, we were warmly welcomed by the very friendly staff who took us through to the bar, where we were handed the drinks menu and asked to show our signed waiver forms – a pre-requisite for any axe throwing.

After perusing the menu, and choosing our cocktails (we opted for the aptly-named Bullseye Bubble), we were given a detailed safety briefing by our coach for our booking, Jade. She ran through the dos and don’ts and made us feel a bit more confident about our first axe throwing experience.

We started off by having some practice throws to warm up, but as we had two lanes for our group, things soon got competitive. Noting our competitive nature (no one wants to lose, right?), Jade gave us a few different games to play, along with a whiteboard to help keep track of our scores.

Jade stayed with our party throughout the booking – each booking comes with a dedicated coach – who not only made sure we were safe but also gave us tips on how to improve our technique. Our booking was two hours, and while we thought that might be a bit long at first – it absolutely flew by and was the perfect amount of time for us to play and wear out our competitive selves.

Bad Axe Throwing offers food – hot dogs and nachos – alongside cocktails, beers, ciders and wines, and you are also able to bring in your own food and drink in.

We had such a fun experience and would recommend it to anyone looking to do something a bit different. It’s a great addition to the wealth of leisure opportunities here in Croydon – and perfect for first dates, double dates, friendly competition between friends, team building events and stag dos/hen parties, and much more. There are also leagues, if you really want to get into axe throwing!

The venue is 18+ and if it’s your birthday it’s free to play. There are also hero discounts for NHS staff, firefighters, police offers and soldiers.

Bad Axe Throwing is located at Unit 53-57, BoxPark, 99 George St, Croydon CR0 1LD and is open from 12pm-10:30pm Monday-Friday, 11am-11pm Saturday, 12pm-10pm Sunday. Prices start from £18.
