Jurys Inn Croydon, a Four AA star accredited London hotel, is conveniently located a stone’s throw from East Croydon station, and only a 10-minute walk from TFL Overground at West Croydon, with the tram line almost on the doorstep. Making the most of Croydon’s incredible connectivity, Jurys Inn is a quick journey to both central London (London Victoria or London Bridge stations), as well as Gatwick Airport. It also benefits from being close to Croydon’s numerous restaurants and bars, on a well-lit route.
Our overnight stay begun with a very warm welcome at reception. The friendly staff are on hand to help 24/7, which is useful for late arrivals and reassuring for guests. There’s also a well-stocked selection of essential items, like toothbrushes, hairbrushes, snacks and so on, in case you’ve forgotten something or had to have a last-minute stay.
We were given a room on the 12th floor, which was accessible from one of three guest lifts. Our spacious, serenely decorated room had stunning views across the city, and you could see as far as Crystal Palace; the sunset over the city skyline was particularly spectacular. The large flat-screen TV had Freeview and there were plenty of electrical sockets, including USB ports on each side of the bed, which is useful for those phone chargers or Ipads.
In Jurys Inn’s £2.75 million modern makeover last year, they not only gave the 240 bedrooms, lobby, restaurant and bar luxurious attention, but they also ensured that the WIFI works perfectly throughout the hotel. Furthermore, with 14 fully-equipped conference and events rooms, Jurys Inn Croydon is an ideal place to organise conferences, training sessions or meetings.
As we’d been given an executive upgrade, we also had a mini fridge, a safe and bottles of mineral water (fizzy and still), which was helpful. There was an iron, ironing board and hairdryer too. The bathroom had plenty of soap, shampoo, body wash and moisturiser. The shower was blissfully powerful and there was a full-sized bath if you wanted a relaxing soak.
If you feel like being sociable, the restaurant and bar are beautifully decorated, which has created a welcoming place to sit and have a meal or drink on your own, or with colleagues. The layout of the bar has been changed, so now the bar is on the right- hand side, with an easy-going, amicable atmosphere. We met a friendly group of mature Spanish visitors, who were on a tour across the UK, and we had a fun time talking to them, despite the language barrier.
It was great to get in the king-sized DREAM bed at the end of the day. With crisp, clean linen and plenty of pillows, it was extremely comfortable, as well as being extraordinarily quiet and calm.
In the morning, after a good night’s sleep, we ambled down to breakfast, where a wonderful buffet awaited us. There was a sumptuous selection, from healthy fruit platters (melon, watermelon, berries, yoghurt) to a full English (sausages, bacon, fried or scrambled eggs, mushrooms, hash browns and baked beans), with toast, bagels, croissants and cereal options too. You can even pay a little extra to have a stack of pancakes with maple syrup. The breakfast was one of the best breakfast buffets I’ve ever seen and there was no surprise that everyone kept getting up to fill their plates again. Gluten-free options were considerately available too. There’s also Costa coffee that can be taken away, for those in a bit of a rush.
Whether you have visiting colleagues, guests, a flight from Gatwick, or want a special night out in London, Jurys Inn Croydon is the ideal option for your hotel accommodation. We were impressed with everything about the hotel, but most of all, it was the friendly staff who made it the perfect stay.
