Partial closure of London Trams in Croydon town centre for essential track renewal works

Transport for London (TfL) has announced a partial closure of the London Trams network in Croydon town centre from 10pm on Sunday 13 July until Sunday 27 July.
The closure is needed to carry out essential track renewal works that will improve the reliability and comfort of tram journeys.

The project will see 300 metres of new track laid between West Croydon and Wellesley Road tram stops, along with the replacement of track sleepers on the Wandle Park flyover. These upgrades will strengthen the durability of the network and help reduce the need for future maintenance.

Replacement works will take place on the following dates:

Track replacement works: 14 July – 27 July
Sleeper replacement works: 23 July – 27 July

The following service changes will apply:

  • 13 July: No trams after 10pm to/from Elmers End or between East Croydon and New Addington.
  • 14 July – 22 July: No tram service between East Croydon and Reeves Corner, or to/from Elmers End.
  • 23 July – 27 July: No tram service between East Croydon and Wandle Park, or to/from Elmers End.

Travel Alternatives

  • Local bus services will operate, though some bus stops near the works will be suspended. Signs will guide passengers to alternative stops.
  • 23 July – 27 July: A tram replacement bus will run between East Croydon and Waddon Marsh.
  • The Hopper fare allows unlimited bus and tram journeys within an hour for £1.75 when touching in.
  • Walking and cycling are also recommended, as buses are expected to be busier than usual.

Passengers are encouraged to plan ahead using the TfL journey planner or the TfL Go app to find the best routes during the closure.
