Remembrance Sunday – Sunday 9 November 2025
The Worshipful, The Civic Mayor of Croydon, Councillor Richard Chatterjee, will lead the borough’s annual acts of remembrance this November, inviting residents to gather on Katharine Street, in honour of those who gave their lives in service to the nation.
The event schedule is as follows:
- 10:20am: Those wishing to lay a wreath should gather at the Spread Eagle pub on Katharine Street. You will be called forward during the ceremony to lay your wreath. Wreaths can be purchased from the Royal British Legion or by calling 0345 845 1945.
- 10:30am: The traditional wreath-laying ceremony will take place on Katharine Street at the Cenotaph. This year, the two-minute silence will be observed at the Cenotaph, followed by a hymn and prayer, following a format similar to that used in London.
While there will be no Civic Service of Remembrance at Croydon Minster this year, the Minster will host its own Remembrance Service at 3pm, open to all members of the public wishing to pay their respects in a church setting.
Please RSVP by noon, Wednesday 5 November 2025 to civicmayor@croydon.gov.uk
Armistice Day – Tuesday 11 November 2025
The Civic Mayor of Croydon will lead the borough in a two-minute silence for Armistice Day, observed at 11am at the Cenotaph on Katharine Street. This national moment of reflection marks the exact time the guns fell silent at the end of the First World War in 1918, honouring the courage and sacrifice of all who have served in conflicts past and present.
Residents planning to attend either event are asked to RSVP by noon on Wednesday 5 November 2025 to civicmayor@croydon.gov.uk
