From ‘Dammit, Janet’ to Pelvic Thrusts – The Rocky Horror Show Rocks Croydon

Richard O’Brien’s cult classic The Rocky Horror Show has returned to Fairfield Halls, bringing a night of fun, chaos, and charm to Croydon.

Whether you’re a diehard fan or a first-timer, this night showed exactly why The Rocky Horror Show has been a theatrical favourite for decades. We went along to see the madness, and it did not disappoint….

On 2 September, the town shimmered, strutted, and did the Time Warp all over again as Richard O’Brien’s legendary The Rocky Horror Show returned to Fairfield Halls’ Ashcroft Theatre.

It had been ten years since this cult classic last hit Croydon, and launch night proved it was worth the wait.

The story follows Brad and Janet, a squeaky-clean couple whose quiet evening is thrown into chaos when they encounter the flamboyant and unpredictable Dr. Frank’n’Furter and his outrageous entourage.

From the very first “Dammit, Janet” to the final pelvic thrust, the show delivered everything you’d expect from this glittering, gender-bending, B-movie homage – campy chaos, sci-fi silliness, plenty of fishnets, and sparkling musical numbers.

The cast was faultless: Stephen Webb was simply fabulous as Frank’n’Furter, strutting across the stage with the kind of magnetic flamboyance that made you want to cheer and cower all at once.

Haley Flaherty and James Bisp gave us the perfect transformation arc as Janet and Brad, starting squeaky clean and ending delightfully corrupted.

And let’s be honest – the narrator can make or break a Rocky Horror night, and Nathan Caton absolutely smashed it. Smooth, razor-sharp, and brilliantly cheeky, his quick-witted comebacks to audience heckles had the entire theatre in stitches.

Of course, no Rocky Horror would be complete without audience participation, and Croydon didn’t disappoint. Shoutouts rang through the Ashcroft Theatre, adding an extra layer of hilarity to an already outrageous evening.

Just when you thought you couldn’t possibly have more fun, the cast invited everyone to their feet for The Time Warp – twice! Let’s just say, Croydon may never be the same again.

With tickets starting at just £25, this show is a steal – and whether you’re a diehard fan or a Rocky Horror virgin, it’s the perfect excuse to dress up, let loose, and escape into a world of frolics, frocks, and fabulous frivolity.

Grab your fishnets and feather boas and join in the madness at Fairfield Halls until 6th September: https://www.fairfield.co.uk/events/the-rocky-horror-show-2025
