Croydon BID Cleansing Team: Q3 2025/26 Impact Report

From October to December 2025, the Croydon BID Cleansing Team continued to play a key role in keeping the town centre clean, well-presented, and welcoming, while also delivering a significantly enhanced cleansing service in response to business feedback.

During Q3, the team removed 204 pieces of graffiti and 162 fly posters, cleaned 613 items of street furniture including bins and benches, and carried out over 16,108 square metres of pavement cleaning and deep cleaning across the town centre. Alongside scheduled cleansing activity, the team provided direct support to 32 businesses, including 7 larger corporate cleans for sites such as Leonardo Hotel and Number One Croydon.

Targeted Cleansing and Business Support:

Cleansing activity during the quarter focused on high-footfall streets, key gateways, and areas experiencing increased use during the festive period. This approach ensured that the town centre remained presentable during one of the busiest trading periods of the year.

Of the businesses supported, the team carried out a combination of frontage cleans, pavement washing, graffiti removal, and tailored deep cleans. Corporate sites received larger-scale cleans designed to improve the overall appearance of prominent buildings and surrounding public space, supporting both business operations and the wider town centre environment.

Launch of the Enhanced Street Cleansing Service:

During Q3, Croydon Business Improvement District launched an enhanced four-day-a-week Street Cleansing Service, significantly increasing its commitment to a cleaner, brighter, and more welcoming town centre.

Introduced in direct response to levy-payer feedback, the enhanced programme doubles the BID’s previous cleansing capacity. The team now delivers 208 additional cleaning days each year, up from 104, equating to 3,328 hours of on-street cleansing annually, compared with 1,664 hours previously.

This increased capacity allows for:

  • Deeper and more regular cleaning of high-footfall streets and public spaces
  • Faster removal of graffiti, fly posters, and persistent grot spots
  • More responsive and tailored cleansing support for both large estates and independent businesses

The Croydon BID Cleansing Team now operates 8-hour shifts starting at 4am on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. By carrying out most work in the early hours, the team ensures the town centre is clean and ready ahead of the working day, supporting businesses, commuters, residents, and visitors alike.

Looking Ahead:

As the enhanced cleansing service becomes embedded, Croydon BID will continue to monitor impact, respond to business feedback, and prioritise areas where additional intervention can make the greatest difference to the town centre’s appearance and cleanliness.
